Hi there,
This week's 15-minute task: the warranty hunt
Most households have a few warranties nobody remembers. Set a timer and:
- Walk to the three most expensive things in your home that plug in (often the fridge, washer and TV or laptop).
- Photograph each model and serial label.
- Search your email for the store or brand to find the receipt and purchase date.
- Write the warranty end date on your list, and add a reminder one month before.
Bonus: check whether the card you paid with extends manufacturer warranties. Many do, but the terms vary.
Full guide: Track warranties so you actually use them.
Seasonal reminder
Open enrollment and insurance renewal season is here for many households. Put your home and auto renewal dates on your bills calendar so you have time to compare.
Reader question
"Do I need to keep utility bills?" Usually only until the next bill shows your payment was received, unless you use them for a home office deduction or a dispute. Our Keep or shred page has the rest.
Happy sorting,
