Make an appliance and systems inventory
One page with every model number, install date and filter size saves hours later.
When the dishwasher breaks, the first question from any repair company is the model number. When a recall is announced, you need to know if it's yours. One page solves both.
What to record
- Item and location
- Brand, model and serial number (photograph the label)
- Purchase or install date and where you bought it
- Warranty end date
- Filter, bulb or part sizes
- Who installed or last serviced it
Where to find the labels
- Dishwasher: on the edge of the door or inside the tub rim
- Refrigerator: inside the fresh food compartment, often on a side wall
- Washer and dryer: inside the door or lid, or on the back
- Water heater and furnace: on the side of the unit
- Range: behind the drawer or on the door frame
Use it
Register products with the manufacturer so you hear about recalls, and check SaferProducts.gov or the CPSC recall list when you buy used appliances.
